An Open Letter To My Readers

It’s that time of year again. No, I don’t mean the one where you dig out your snowshoes and parkas. I definitely don’t mean the one where pumpkin spice becomes the new religion. I’m talking about that precious, glittery moment in an author’s life where we make lists. It’s list season. At least, it is for me.

Lists are important. They keep us organized and on track. I like lists because I’m a visual person so seeing things with my own two eyes helps me remember important things, like birthdays, Christmas presents, appointments, and … releases.

I know most of you are reading this and rolling your eyes. Good lord woman, we know! You’ve already posted this a million times. But bear with me.

The last two years have been a nightmare for me. I don’t normally discuss my personal life because it is just that—personal. And I hate dragging other people into my pit. But I will not lie, 2015-2016 couldn’t/can’t end fast enough while at the same time, the very idea of 2017 scares the hell out of me.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because of the messages, the PMs, the emails, and the comments. I know I’ve made numerous posts regarding the order of release, but those posts seem to continuously get overlooked or missed by excited readers waiting for a certain book, which usually results in upset messages.

Let me just say that I LOVE you guys. I love how eager you are for every release and I appreciate your patience and your understanding so much. I know certain books were supposed to be released on certain dates that have already passed. But I am only just getting back into my writing. The Devil’s Beauty was my first—and so far only— release for 2016. The only book since Transcending Darkness came out in Nov of 2015. I’m not including Laid Bare or Love & Grace in that equation. But with November upon us, that is literally a freaking year. For me, that is mortifying. It’s depressing. I went from at least 4-5 books a year, to one. Just writing this hits me square in the chest.

While I understand it’s not the number of books you put out a year that matters, but the quality of each book, I still kick myself for letting my readers down. I hate seeing my list and thinking, that book should have already been out! I hate knowing that there was absolutely nothing in the whole world I could have done differently the last two years to change things. No author goes out of their way to deliberately miss deadlines. It’s as important to us to meet each one as it is for our readers. Sometimes, life happens. Unavoidable things happen. Threatening, bully, cussing a person for something out of their control won’t solve anything. If anything, it’ll just make things harder for the person who already knows and feels like crap. The only thing I can do is move forward, work my butt off and get those books out, and that is exactly what I’ve been doing.

So, here I am again, putting the list out. I’m currently working on the final rounds of edits for Off Script. It’s been a roller coaster of an adventure. So much has happened with this novel. It has gone through so many changes, including a new cover. I’ll be putting up sign up sheets soon for the release (or you can skip the line and sign up for my Master List now) and the promotional part of the party will begin. Because of what happened in the past with dates, I haven’t issued one, but judging from how close I am to being finished, it won’t be much longer.  *Whew!*

Now, here’s a quick peek at the list again. Nothing has changed. The order has been chiseled in stone. A few of them, I’m happy to announce, I have already written large chunks of so I’m confident they won’t take very long. I just ask for your patience and understanding a bit longer.

  1. I love you and your books so take as long as you need, real life comes first every time and if fans don’t understand that then they are not fans.
