It’s a tough question to be sure. When I wrote John Paul, he always struck me as the strong, protective fatherly figure to Ava. He was also from an era when same sex relationships (especially for a man in his position) would have been considered shameful and wrong. Maybe even weakness, and after what happened with Elena, coming out was never an option for him, unfortunately. She used the one thing he was afraid of against him in a way that he could never come back from that. So, he did the only thing he could think of to keep his secret a secret, he proposed to Ava’s mom as a cover. Then when he met Ava, he did it for her, because of the way her mother was towards her. In his mind, he would never be truly free to be himself, but he turned all the love and attention in him to mending the little girl in his care. š

If you’ve read the book, I hope you’ll agree how incredibly brave, selfless, and elegant he was. There is nothing that I love more than the opportunity to share a book. I don’t think there’s anything more exciting than that first moment you shove a book into another reader’s hands and wait for them to explore and experience the love and magic you did. Totally corny, I know, but I still get that giddy sensation every time. lol.
For my 5 to Dark post, I wanted to pick books for my readers who enjoyed THE DEVIL’S BEAUTY, dark tales of twisted romance and deliciously tormented characters. Oh, how the sadist in me loves broken souls. Yum! And these authors are just some of the ones who come highly recommended. Believe me, it was not an easy task. I hate having to trim my lists down. It physically hurts. But we just don’t have the time or graphic space to fit as many as I really want … which is my entire TBR list … LMAO!
