Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon

At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.

But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.

As if starting high school isn’t hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

I love everything Sherrilyn Kenyon has ever put out. I can honestly say that I am a huge fan hands down, without a doubt. I own every one of her books and have read them more than once, but this one, this series, somehow slipped right out from beneath my nose, so imagine my ecstatic delight when I found out Ms. Kenyon was now writing young adult *happy dance*.

I finished Infinity in a single sitting. I loved Nick. He was witty, sarcastic, awkward and so like a teenage boy. The story was fast-paced, the plot intriguing. There were so many things I love about the Dark Hunter series, but now I have questions and my Dark Hunter handbook doesn’t have the answers.

Does this book start before the Dark Hunter books? Is this the first book? Because a lot of the characters in the book are married in the series, but their other half isn’t in this book, so I’m assuming, this book is the beginning, before the Dark Hunter Series. I’m sure Ms. Kenyon has answered this question somewhere… I’ll have to look it up.

Also, what is the deal with Nick’s mother? OMG! She was obsessive in a way that made me want to hit her. Nick is a good kid. He gets good grades in school so much so that he got a scholarship into one of the top schools of Louisiana. He works hard. He’s good to everyone around him, always ready to lend a hand, always thinking of others. He doesn’t have the best of friends and his temper gets him in a lot of trouble, but all in all, he’s a good kid. His mother treats him like he’s an idiot or a two-year-old child. She is always nagging at him, always smothering him with so much over protectiveness, worst of all, she’s always comparing him to his dad, who is in prison for murder. I think that pissed me off like nothing else. She gives him no credit and every little thing he does, she’s instantly down his throat, humiliating him and making him even doubt himself.

At one point, Nick says his mom is the sweetest, most trusting person he knew, meanwhile, she is suspicious of everything and everyone. Everyone in the book thought she was a nagging fishwife. Seriously, the mother drove me up the wall. The best part in the entire book was when she got tranquilized, shutting her up for maybe 3-4chapters. Then, she woke up and I wanted to smother her with a pillow.

Moving on.

As I stated, I’m a big Dark Hunter fan, so I have a fair recognition of the characters who made an appearance. Now, you don’t need to have read the series to understand or follow along. The story follows the Dark Hunters, but it’s about Nick and his new-found abilities. Nevertheless, It was really nice to see some of the characters make an appearance in the book. It made me aw so many times. I’m on the second book now, Invincible, and am hoping, praying, that his mother makes little to no appearance in the book. I just can’t stand the woman.

As always though, I loved the book. I loved the characters (minus mommy dearest) and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

so, in conclusion:

Will I read the next book? Yes.

Will I tell my friends about this book? Yes.

Did I enjoy it? Yes.
