REVIEW — Asleep

There is nothing scarier—in my opinion— than an insane asylum, except maybe the basement of my old house. I’m still fairly confident it may have been used as a torture chamber at some point in its existence. But next to hospitals, graveyards, the dentist’s office, asylums just give off that funky vibe. You know the one I’m talking about. Well, that is where our heroine is being taken by her parents as the book opens.
Rose Briar is your average teenager, except the part where she’s crazy, or is she? There’s a very thin veil between what was real and what was actually in her head. It felt like just when you think you have it all figured out, you realize it could have quite possibly been in her head. Crazy!
Asleep was very well executed with complex characters and a disturbing plot. There are a few swears throughout, which I personally don’t find offensive, but this is YA so if you’re against it, be warned. I don’t recommend this book if you’re sensitive to the topic of mental disorders or have trouble sleeping. Otherwise, it’s an intriguing bit of distraction of you want a fast read on your commute home (unless you’re driving, then wait until you’re actually home).
All in all, this is a 4.5 star read for me.
Thank you for the amazing review!!
