**I recommend getting this book on Audio!**

I am such a horror junkie. I love a good scare, even if I wind up having to spend the next year terrified of the dark. There’s just something uniquely thrilling about being scared out of your wits. I honestly can’t remember how I came across this book. I think it was by chance while looking up another book, but the cover and the title sucked me in. I didn’t even read the blurb. I listened to a snippet of the audio and was sold.

The presentation, the voices, the sound effects … omg! I had goose bumps. Crazy chilling. I loved how Charlotte Parry and Christian Coulson narrated the voices of Carly Johnson and company. As someone super picky when it comes to which audiobooks I can stand listening to, they definitely did a fantastic job.

The Dead House is about Carly Johnson who we find out is being treated at a psychiatric hospital after the death of her parents. But it’s worse than that.

“Carly Johnson, vanished without a trace….

Until a diary is found hidden in the ruins. But the diary, badly scorched, does not belong to Carly Johnson. It belongs to Kaitlyn Johnson, a girl who shouldn’t exist.”

The story isn’t told directly from the character. The entire book is a series of journal entries and video evidence the police are going through when Carly’s high school gets burned to the ground and five students turn up dead. We’re taken through a series of sick twists and morbid turns while we try to determine what happened to Carly and the other students, and who is the dead girl Carly sees even when she’s awake?

It’s really hard to write a review for a novel that you can’t give much of anything away. Everything is a tangled knot that you really have to read to the end to unravel. The only thing I was on the fence about was the end, actually. It was a very well thought out novel, but the end left me a bit confused. It definitely wasn’t how I expected things to turn out and there are a few questions I have that weren’t answered or not answered clearly. But I did enjoy the read and I recommend it if you’re a fan of Paranormal Activity.

Just don’t read it in the dark.
