The Hunger Games
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister Primrose, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before — and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Chasing Fire
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark won the annual competition described in Hunger Games, but the aftermath leaves these victors with no sense of triumph. Instead, they have become the poster children for a rebellion that they never planned to lead. That new, unwanted status puts them in the bull’s-eye for merciless revenge by The Capitol…

Mockingjay
Young Katniss Everdeen has survived the dreaded Hunger Games not once, but twice, but even now she can find no relief. In fact, the dangers seem to be escalating: President Snow has declared an all-out war on Katniss, her family, her friends, and all the oppressed people of District 12. The thrill-packed final installment of Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy will keep young hearts pounding.

I’ll admit it right now that I never wanted to read this series. It sounded over the top, just another hype on top of a mountain of other hypes and I tire easily of BS. Besides, why would I spend my precious reading time reading a book I wasn’t going to like anyway?
Then I gave the series to a friend of mine for Christmas and she convinced me that I needed to read it, and I’ll be honest, I was thoroughly ashamed of myself. Being a person who believes every book deserves a fair chance, I truly let myself down. So, I picked up The Hunger Games, the first of the trilogy.
I’d picked this book up at least six times in the past, each time reading 3-4pgs in and giving up, certain I wouldn’t like it. So, this time, I pushed through, cutting through 1 then 2 then 3 chapters, reading faster and faster until I was looking at the back cover, dazed.
What… the… hell just happened? I finished the entire series in a week without pause, but I wasn’t satisfied. It was over and I wanted more! The fact that there would be a movie coming out in a short few months did nothing to balm the loss of finishing something so amazing.
I loved The Hunger Games, enjoyed Chasing Fire and liked Mockingjay, but I truly felt like Ms. Collin left a few pieces missing in Mockingjay or maybe I was so devastated by the end that I wanted to hang on to all the ways Ms. Collins could have kept the story going, possibly forever.
Would I reread the series?
Already ahead of you!
Would I recommend it to a friend?
Already have, more than once!
Am I excited about the movie?
I’ve only watched the trailer about a million times and still shiver each time!
ALL MUST WATCH IT!
And, as always, MAY THE ODDS EVER BE IN YOUR FAVOR!
